⤐☾ ☼ ✩ Never ♡ Stop ♡ Exploring
Earlier this year I spent the day skiing with friends and found out that our little mascot Totoro enjoys the Rockies as much as we do! I took him in my Marmot backpack and stop so often to snap a picture of him around the beautiful landscape around us. I started skiing when I was older, around my mid-twenties; and although my busy life as a student in Japan and consequently as a professional and mom in Canada took me far from the slopes at times, I never really lost my passion for skiing! I LOVE to ski!
So when I say that being in Canada was just part of my destiny, and that I love winter, I really feel that my life was just the way it was meant to be. Winter comes and I can wait to hit the slopes and smell the fresh air and jump on that white powder!
Sitting on a chairlift, I was looking for good spots to take my Totoro pictures. The majestic and beautiful landscape is not short of good places and this day was just perfect! Perfect lighting, not so windy, just amazing snow and skiing. Early winter with the low sun there is less sun effect on the snow, so powder stays fluffy longer.
It was a beautiful sunny Saturday at Sunshine Village. In Alberta, we are so lucky to have the beautiful Rockies just in our backyard. Mountains loaded with unique places to explore. I've actually thought in the past: 'What is the fun on slogging up (and down) trails on snowshoes?' Just wondering why on earth people would choose this slow and arduous method of travel over the often effortless gliding down hills that can be done on skis. Well, now it's time to eat my previous words and tell you that Snowshoeing is actually AWESOME! I love this sport and there's nothing arduous about it when you choose to go out with White Mountain Adventures for the day.
We ventured Mt.Standish (2,398m) as recommended by one of the Sunshine Village friendly staff. At first, we thought of trying the Angel Squad and see the incredible view of Lookout Moutain (2,730m). But because of its incline and distance, we agreed that we can leave that for another time! If you decide to go out and try this fun activity, dress appropriately and stay safe! Hope you like these photos.
